The Non-Exclusive License
On our shop, purchasing is simplified thanks to our unique license: all designs in our catalog are sold under a single license. A non-exclusive license is granted for use , whether for personal use or commercial production , without limitations on media or territory, and for a maximum duration of 10 years . A design can therefore be purchased and used by multiple buyers (no exclusivity is granted to the buyer upon purchase of a design).
The purchased design can be used for:
- create and resell physical objects on which the design is printed
- create and resell digital content incorporating the design (in this case, the distribution of the drawing can only be done in a low definition resolution (72 dpi maximum) and in JPG format.
Licensed purchasers are authorized to adapt the colors and scale of the pattern when technically possible.
Duplication, resale or sub-licensing of all or part of the design is prohibited. The design may not be purchased for resale as is. Similarly, the use of all or part of the elements constituting the design as a company logo or trademark is prohibited.

The rates
The price of a drawing is based on its size in centimeters (small, medium, and large). The price of the same drawing also varies depending on the file type you choose: all drawings are available in JPEG format, and most also offer the editable source file (vector .AI format or layers .PSD) for a slightly higher price. All files are high resolution (300 dpi).
The prices offered are therefore accessible to everyone, starting from €40 excluding VAT per JPG.

Which file should I choose: JPEG or source file (vector or Photoshop layers)?
By default, you will get a high-resolution JPEG file (300 DPI) and you can also choose the vector source file (.AI or .EPS) or in Photoshop layer format (.PSD) if it is offered for sale.
The advantage of choosing the source file is that you can then modify the colors and scale of the design (especially useful for enlarging it while maintaining quality, which is true for the Illustrator .AI format). Depending on the initial size of the design, being able to enlarge it to adapt it to any medium and project can be very useful. You can then simply save the source file in the desired format (for example, as a JPG for use with an online printer or as a .TIFF/.AI/.PSD for a local printer who will prefer to use the source file for printing).
In summary, a JPG may be sufficient for online printing, but a .PSD or .AI source file allows more freedom (color modification, scaling, and flexibility for the printer).

What is copyright?
Copyright consists of a set of rights held by a creator or their successors in title over original works of the mind, for which the creator can provide proof of prior creation. It arises on the day the work is created.
The creator holds economic rights, which constitute their exploitation rights to the work, and moral rights, which are personal to them. The creator may assign their economic rights to a third party to exploit the work; these rights include the right of performance, the right of reproduction, the right of adaptation, and the resale right. The creator retains their moral rights (the right to be credited as the author of their work, the right of disclosure, the right of withdrawal or retraction, and the right to the integrity of the work).
The creator authorizes the buyer to exploit their reproduction right under certain conditions detailed in the non-exclusive Clear Model license.
What is an exclusive user license?
The exclusive license gives the licensee an exclusive right of use.
Benefits :
- For the buyer: The buyer is the only one who can exploit the transferred right against its competitors on a given application, sector of activity and territory.
- For the designer: The exclusive use license allows the designer to sell their design at a high price, to which royalties may be added on each sale.
Disadvantages:
- For the buyer: The acquisition cost for the buyer is higher (starting at €500 on average for an all-over pattern in 2023 - according to our survey ).
- For the designer: The designer can no longer resell the design in the sectors of activity and territories used by the client.
What is a non-exclusive usage license?
A license is non-exclusive when the right to use the design can be granted to multiple clients. In other words, a design sold under a non-exclusive license can be purchased and used by several buyers, within the sectors of activity and territories defined by the license.
Benefits :
- For the buyer The acquisition cost is lower. On French Design, designs are sold at affordable prices starting from €40 excluding VAT (price varies depending on the size of the design).
- For the designer: The non-exclusive usage license allows sales to a multitude of clients, reaching a wider market and thus generating more potential revenue. This formula on French Design also offers the designer greater flexibility while reducing their marketing costs (no upfront expenses to find new clients). Finally, French Design provides a solution that promotes the reuse of unsold designs (on average, 25% of the designs created each season are sold as one-offs for exclusive use. Unfortunately, the remaining 75% are mostly lost forever). Survey )
Disadvantages:
- For the buyer: The buyer is not the only one to hold the transferred rights and may find the same design at one of its competitors.
- For the designer: Once their design has been purchased under a non-exclusive license, they can no longer resell that design under an exclusive license.
The difference between a partial and full use license
The license to use, whether exclusive or non-exclusive, may be partial or total.
A license for partial use of a design includes a limitation of territory, duration and/or sector of activity.
The license for full use of a design does not include any particular limitations.
For example, a partial exclusive use license is a license that gives the buyer an exclusive right to use the design (they are the only one who can buy and use it) for a given territory (example: for sales in Europe only) or for a given sector of activity (example: for application of the design in the bed linen sector only).
Conversely, a total non-exclusive license is a license that gives the buyer a non-exclusive right to use the design (he is not the only one who can buy and use it) without limitation of territory and/or sector of activity (example: the buyer can use the design, in accordance with the rights granted, in the bed linen sector, in the women's fashion sector and also in the stationery sector).
